Dr. Virginia M.-Y. Lee obtained her PhD in Biochemistry, University of California San Francisco (1973) and an MBA at the Wharton School (1984). She is the John H. Ware 3rd Professor in Alzheimer’s Research and directs the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research at the University of Pennsylvania. Her work was instrumental in demonstrating that tau, α-synuclein and TDP-43 proteins form unique brain aggregates with a central role in numerous neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, frontotemporal dementias and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. She is a member of the Institute of Medicine and her research on Alzheimer’s disease had won her numerous awards.
